Friday 6th May 2011

On Friday we began to wallpaper, while the brackets made earlier in the week, were being attached to the back of the flats. Myself, Rhyan and Jenny mixed a weak solution of wallpaper paste and applied it straight the walls. We did this because if we applied the wallpeper straight onto the walls, the walls would have absorbed all the moisture out of the paste and the wallpaper would fall off the walls. We left this to soak in for a couple of hours.

In the afternoon we used a plumbline to draw a straight line down one wall in each room. We cut the wallpaper one foot longer than it needed to be. 5 foot was needed so we cut at lengths of about 6 foot. Two people helped paste the wallpaper while myself, Jenny nd Ryhan hung the paper. One person stood on the platform and holding and matching the top of the paper to the line drawn before. The person standing on the floor matched the paper at the bottom. We used a dry sponge to smooth down the wallpaper and a wet sponge to wipe away excess paste. Where the paper overlapped the panneling at the bottom it was cut off.
